Why
Use BioFilter Booster?
New
ponds have no active biological filtration. When fish are added to the
pond, they immediately begin releasing toxic ammonia as a waste product.
As uneaten fish food decomposes, it also releases ammonia and increases
the level of dissolved organic compounds in the water. Such conditions
result in high levels of toxic ammonia and nitrite, as well as low
dissolved oxygen levels, all of which can create the potential for the
outbreak of disease. The development of the biological filter is
actually inhibited by these conditions, prolonging the stress on aquatic
life. BioFilter Booster
improves the development of the biological filter by breaking down these
inhibitory substances.
Pond
Care BioFilter Booster is a highly concentrated suspension of bacteria that have been
specifically selected for the development of biological filters in
ornamental fish ponds. Once a pond's biological filter is established,
regular use of BioFilter
Booster keeps it working
efficiently. BioFilter
Booster helps break down
harmful organic compounds that inhibit the activity of the biological
filter, as well as those that lead to ammonia and nitrite poisoning of
fish, low oxygen levels, and low pH.
Seasonal
variations have an impact on the activity of the biological filter in
established ponds. In the spring, for example, pond fish begin to feed
and to excrete waste before the biological filter has come out of its
winter dormancy; a build-up of toxic ammonia can occur. BioFilter
Booster helps eliminate a springtime ammonia surge by creating favorable
conditions for the re-growth of nitrifying bacteria. Regular use of BioFilter
Booster also assures that the biological filter will remain active during the
warmer months, when fish consume more food and excrete greater amounts

How
BioFilter Booster Works
Each
ounce of BioFilter
Booster contains 500
million live bacteria to enhance the growth of the biological filter and
to aid in the removal of compounds that will inhibit its development.
The bacterial culture in BioFilter
Booster is stabilized to
provide a three-year shelf life, as shown by the expiration date on the
label. Other bacterial pond products have limited shelf life, yet their
labels give no expiration dates. Liquid bacterial products, in
particular, are subject to rapid degradation, evidenced by their
characteristic "rotten egg ‘ (hydrogen sulfide) odor. Formation
of toxic hydrogen sulfide indicates complete product breakdown;
consequently, such products should not be added to a pond. BioFilter
Booster has
only the musty odor typical of concentrated bacterial solutions. When
used as directed, BioFilter
Booster assures a
well-functioning biological filter, good water quality, and healthy
fish.
Directions For Use: Biofilter
Booster should be shaken well before using.
Spring Start-up & New Ponds: Add
2 teaspoonfuls (10 ml) of BioFilter
Booster, for every 25 US
gallons (95L) of pond water directly into the biological filter, once a week for
4 weeks or until the water test for ammonia & nitrite stay at
optimal levels. After the first month, follow directions below for
"Established Ponds."
Summer Directions: Add
one teaspoon (5 ml) for every 25 US gallons (95 ml) of pond water
directly into the biological filter once a month. If water testing
indicates dangerous levels of ammonia or nitrite, revert to "Spring
Start-up" directions while corrective measures are taken.
